Press Release 9th May 2015,Bratislava

The second weekend of May each year belongs to the one of the greatest phenomena of nature – Bird Migratory. Every year, millions of migratory birds struggle with the massive expansion of various means of generating and distributing energy: collisions and electrocution due to power lines as well as barrier effects from energy infrastructure are causing mortality and displacement. With the theme “Energy – make it bird-friendly!”, World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) 2015 aims to highlight the importance of deploying energy technologies in a way that prevents, minimizes and mitigates impacts on migratory birds and their habitats.

"It's great that World Migratory Bird Day is aimed to the theme of Energy. Slovakia is a country where power companies long-term cooperate in the protection of birds against electrocution and also the collision with power lines. An example of cooperation are many successful projects, the latest one is called LIFE energy with the support of the European Commission and will last for five years, "says Lucia Deutschová, LIFE Project Manager Energy Organization of Raptor Protection of Slovakia (RPS).

Also Raptor Protection of Slovakia takes action and raise awareness on WMBD. We prepared excursion for general public, which takes part on 15th May in Devínska Kobyla. The goal of the excursion is the observation of birds of prey and other species. Excursion is for free and i tis necessary to register. More information you can find at www.dravce.sk.
