Objectives of the project

Thanks to installations of bird flight diverters, there will be ensured increased visibility of risk of electric lines for birds in the range of at least 74 kilometers, in other parts the safety will be increased by the revitalization of wind breaks, which birds will overfly. So will we rescue before injury, and most probably death due to collision with power lines, at least 250 birds per year.

Through the installation of 55 aluminum nest boxes and 40 artificial nests we will improve nesting opportunities for rare species such as the Imperial Eagle and the Saker Falcon, which will significantly contribute to the improvement of the total population of these species in Slovakia and help stabilize it. We expect that after the project there will be stable nesting of at least 40 pairs of Imperial Eagle and 40 pairs of Saker Falcon.

By ensuring appropriate management on the two key areas that appear on Suslik, in SPA Slovak Karst, the increased abundance of this species in the area should rise to the original 170 to 340 individuals. The acreage of suitable habitat for suslik, with the application of appropriate farming methods will be increased from four to nine hectares. Except the return of suslik to the country will also be improved availability of historical prey for predators.

All animals that are found injured or otherwise disabled will be in breeding and rehabilitation facilities provided with professional care. In case of a successful rehabilitation animals are released back into the wild. We assume that patients are primarily different species of birds; while during the project are expected more than 200 cases.

The aim of the project activities is to increase public awareness about everything related to the issue of birds and overhead power lines, the LIFE program, Natura 2000 project area and target species. We would like not only to improve the transmission of information, but we are also open to receive complaints and draw on the experience of people.

An important aspect of the project is to work with other organizations that aim to address related issues, both within their own intentions, or outside, at the national but also international level. Slovak Presentation of results at international conferences and meetings is very important; sharing experiences and knowledge is irreplacable, which increases the efficiency of our work and achievements.
