Press Release 19th February 2016

A few days ago observed Austrian ornithologist sister of adopted Imperial Eagle Karol. Karol was found during a regular control of nests of Imperial Eagles at Nitra in the mountains Tríbeč. Experts from Raptor Protection of Slovakia (RPS) put it in the nest of another pair of Imperial Eagle, where was already one nestling of the same age named Katka. Rare adoption was successful, in early August flew both of them out of the nest, since they could not be seen. Katka was captured by photo trap in Austria and her identity revealed ring with number. Eagle is critically endangered throughout Europe, in the western and eastern part of Slovakia nest in the number of only about 50 pairs.

“While the Imperial Eagles are wintering, we pave the attention for improving breeding conditions. Eagle is very shy, and their nests are set high in the trees so that for the people are hidden. That is the reason, however, that the nests are usually thrown by the wind. In the project LIFE Energy we install specially adapted and stabile nests, looked like an eagle's nest. We place them in nesting territories and believe that eagles will used them already this season. We are looking forward to their wedding flights, which will start soon, "explain Chavko from RPS.
