Travelling exhibition

The target group of this activity is the general public. The traveling exhibition, presenting the relationship of birds and overhead electrical lines in Natura 2000 will be created. The exhibition will be presented to the general public during the project and after its completion. It will consist of four panels of around 180x100 cm and a number of exhibits, approaching the project. The exhibition will also consist of a maquette of electric pylons and lines, illustrating the risk to birds and the proposal of measures for prevention of collisions. Part of the exhibition will also be photos and videos. During the project, the exhibition will be presented in at least 10 places, such as museums, vestibules of environmental authorities or administrations of the State Nature Conservancy and in the areas of Energy companies, festivals and other events. Expected total visits: 2000.

The purpose of this activity is to raise public awareness, especially on the positive activities improving the protection of birds. It is also to improve the image of Energy companies, through the presentation of their activities dedicated to birds.

Notice boards

Five notice boards will be installed in visible, accessible and attractive places. One board will be located at the main entrance to the complex UVLF in Kosice, the other 4 information boards will be placed near the department of management of protected areas SNC, where there will be improved conditions of rescue stations - Brzotín, Nitra, Banská Štiavnica, Rimavská Sobota.

Project webpage

The coordinating beneficiary will create the project website at for the purpose of the dissemination of project activities, progress in its implementation and its results. It was reported as a web address where the public can become familiar with the main results of the project. This web site will be available no later than six months from the start of the project, it will be periodically updated and is available for at least five years after the end of the project.

Project communication and dissemination of results

The communication plan has been developed, which will be updated if necessary. For the purpose of recording the communication project, registration of media outputs in the form of a summary table has been created. This indicates the date of publication, respective date of publication in media, themes, responsible person and the type of publication of output in the archive.

It also establishes audiovisual archives, where the recorded media outputs and other project promotional materials will be kept. In the audiovisual archive there will be: visual recordings of television reports, audio recordings of radio reports, scans of printed articles and previews of online articles.

The expected outcomes of the project:

- 500 pieces PR package with subjects under consideration coordinating the beneficiary,

- a film with a duration of about 30 minutes. 500 DVDs will be distributed in two languages (English and Slovak), as well as a short video as a trailer to this film,

- 1000 leaflets will be created and distributed,

- there will be a special edition of the magazine issued - The Journal Slovak Raptor (300 pcs),

-at the beginning and end of the project, there will be a press conference held,

-to the media will be sent out at least 15 Press Releases,

-at least 10 journal articles, 10 radio and 20 television outputs and 40 online articles will be created.

Final Project Report-Layman's report

At the end of the project there will be a report– Layman´s report prepared. It will summarise the results of the project in a bilingual Slovakia-English version and there will be 1000 copies issued, in the range of 5-10 pages.

Project results covering the period from 1st September 2014 to 30th June 2018:

  • All notice boards were installed on visible places. Two notice boards were removed from the original location after consultation with the external monitoring team and placed on a more visited and more visible place. Two notice boards were produced and installed by the SNC in area of the Headquarters of Local SNC Authorities: CHKO Štiavnické vrchy and CHKO Cerová vrchovina in Rimavská Sobota. One notice board is located the top of Zobor Mountain - a very visited place by tourists. Another notice board is located in Slovak Karst in a Zádielska tiesňava gorge - a famous place visited by tourists. One notice board was produced and installed at the campus of the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice during a Press Conference for media.

  • A project website was designed and is updated regularly. It includes main information about the project (sites, species, objectives), description of the birds vs. power lines topic, monthly reports of project results, gallery, blog, news and other interesting articles. Over 485 articles were published in Slovak and English language including basic articles about the target species, main information about the project, project team, contact details.The project website visit rate was monitored by Google Analytics Application. Since the beginning of the project the project website was visited by 13 650 users in 18 196 sessions and the page was viewed 40 492 times in all. Totally, the website was visited by people from 72 countries of 5 continents included many exotic countries. The website was adjusted to the recommendations of the Slovak Blind and Partially Sighted Union. In the result the rating of blind friendly accessibility increased from the very low level (67%) to the middle level (93%) in terms of applicable Law No. 55/2014 of the Slovak Ministry of Finance.

  • Regular communication with media and public is ensured as a very important part of project implementation. 713 media outputs were recorded: 475 Online articles, 118 Print magazines, 81 TV broadcasts, 39 Radio Interviews). The key word “Life Energia” was mentioned 225 times in Slovak media (by the source Slovakia Online – media monitoring). 20 on-site Press Conferences were organised , 63 Press Releases were submitted to media, always mentioning the Union support received. Among these outputs also 7 articles published on the page of European Commission are included. The PR set was produced in 500 pcs, consisting of a bag, one or two T-shirts, a poster, 5 stickers of different motives and a 2017 calendar. Almost 660 likes were reached on project Facebook page, 369 posts were published in the reporting period with total reach 99 471 (average 270 per one post). 25 videos on YouTube channel were published with over 400 views.

  • The Exhibition “I´m sitting on the line and I´m fine” was prepared and is being presented to wide public. An opening ceremony and presentation of the exhibition was held on the MoE in October 2016. The exhibition was prepared and presented under the auspices of the MoE to wide public at 8 places in cities: Bratislava, Nitra, Šahy, Košice, Piešťany and Bratislava again. At the Faculty of Chemical and Food Technology at STU in Bratislava the exhibition is held and opened to public up to this day. At least 242 268 people visited places. 10 different events were organized to promote the exhibition and spread its message.

  • 600 municipalities and 280 elementary and high schools within the project area were invited to project cooperation, to public survey and extensive “A Spring bird campaign”. In order to assess the public environmental awareness a large-scale survey was accomplished as first, using 4 types of online and direct enquiry. Enquiry named “Energy in the Street” was distributed to general public using different web sites and social networks. In total, 548 answer sheets were filled by respondents of different demographics, location and job. 76 local project area inhabitants found the enquiry published on their communal web site. In order to receive the baseline level of school environmental education, online enquiries “Energy of the Teacher” and “Energy in the School” were distributed to 280 elementary and high schools within the project area with the call for filling in the answer sheets by teachers and pupils. The response of the schools was surprisingly low, only 7 schools, 10 teachers and 63 pupils participated in the survey. Extra survey named “Energy at the University” was accomplished to measure university students’ awareness level. The number of 28 answer sheets was filled by students of the University of Constantinus the Philosopher in Nitra, the Natural Sciences Faculty. One extra social survey on project field assistants who had carried out the electric wires survey was completed to find out the project field staff social structure and demographics as well as their experience, gained skills, views and feelings. Data from 53 respondents were collected. The results of survey carried out among the project field assistants were presented on project web page in News in 5 articles.
